Hello, I refer to your report on the Specialist Disability Accommodation program and my question relates to people with psycho-social disability and high support needs currently living with parents in institutions or hospitals. Historically these people have often not been supported in the disability services system but rather in the health system. Can you advise if people with psycho-social disability currently in hospitals or institutions were included or excluded from the figures you quote in you report? Thank you, Rod Astbury

      Hi Rod,
Thanks for asking. The data used for the analysis in the SDA Market Insights report was based on the Disability Services – National Minimum Data Set compiled by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, meaning that it would not include anyone who didn’t receive at least some disability services funding from state and territory governments.
We acknowledge this is an underestimate of demand, given that many people would not be recorded (e.g. people in health facilities, people on waitlists for disability services, or who had no contact with state disability services).
      Regards, Vince

The technical notes on page 52 of the Market Insights report sets out the data sources and assumptions (and limitations) of the analysis.
