More information about my experience:
I have been working within the NDIS space supporting people with disability for almost 3 years. I’ve supported people to transition into SDA, working with providers and mainstream services to ensure that the experience is as seamless and easy as possible. I have also worked with people to help them explore, identify and plan for their housing needs. I started working in the NDIS space as a Plan Manager before moving across to Support Coordination, which has given me a strong foundation and understanding of how the NDIS pricing arrangements work, and how the funding in NDIS plans can be used creatively to help people meet their needs. I’ve worked with people, and their families, with high physical support needs, as well as supporting people sensory impairment and psychosocial disabilities.I have a strong network that I am engaged with to ensure that people get the best independent advice and support possible, if I don’t know something, I’ll find out.
I have skills working with:
- Children and young people with disability
- People from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
- People in crisis or emergency situations
- People in hospital
- People living in or at risk of entering residential aged care
- People seeking mainstream housing
- People seeking specialist disability accommodation (SDA)
- People who are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
- People who are LGBTIQ+
- People with ageing or seriously ill parents/family
- People with behaviours of concern
- People with complex communication needs
- People with high and complex health needs
I have attended the following UpSkill training workshop(s):
A little bit more about me:
I started working in the NDIS space as a Plan Manager, after working as a BAS Agent and Advisor for small businesses in the Health and Wellness industries. I founded the company I now work with as we saw a need for more independent, person-centred approaches to Support Coordination and Plan Management. Supporting people with disability is immensely rewarding, I can’t tell you how glad I am to be working in this space (even with the challenges the NDIS throws our way!).
On a personal note, I’m hearing impaired, and have lived experience with psychosocial disability. This has given me an insight into the sense of isolation that comes with the lack of access and inclusion so often experienced by people with different abilities. I’m a curious person who loves learning and is constantly up-skilling and studying. I am also a creative person who recharges through textile arts, cooking good food and going bush (COVID permitting of course).
My professional values are:
My personal values are to work with a sense of purpose and integrity. That purpose is to contribute to creating a community that is inclusive and accessible for everybody. Working with integrity for me means coming from a place of kindness, respect, pragmatism, and a giving of space to allow people to grow in their own way. I believe in doing with, not for, in order to enable people with disability to build their own capacity, to participate in our community, and to enjoy the same level of access, inclusion and opportunity that is available to people without disability.
