Q&A on the UpSkill Provider Directory

The Summer Foundation’s Curator, Emma Gee, chats with one of the organisation’s  Project Coordinators, Helen Jeisman, about the new UpSkill Provider Directory  – a searchable online directory of support coordinators and NDIS allied health professionals.

Helen, you have been instrumental in creating the new UpSkill Provider Directory at the Summer Foundation. Given that we are connected to so many people with lived experience of disability – I was keen to get to know you a little better and connect people to this awesome resource!

So, firstly, tell me what you do here at the Summer Foundation?

Hi Emma! I’m one of the Project Coordinators here at the Summer Foundation and my main focus over the past couple of years has been the development of our UpSkill program.

What is the UpSkill Provider Directory all about?

This Provider Directory will enable people with disability, families and others who assist them to search for support coordinators and NDIS allied health professionals, for example, OTs and physios, who have the skills and attributes that suit them.  Specifically – users will be able to search for providers using location, skills and experience filters.

We set it up because we get a lot of calls from NDIS participants looking for support coordinators and NDIS allied health professionals with particular skill sets. People don’t always want to be connected with ‘just anyone’, some people want to choose who provides support based on their skills and experience.

That’s why we created this Provider Directory. It’s a platform where people with disability, families and other supporters will be able to search for support coordinators and NDIS allied health professionals using the location, skills and experience filters.

What are the benefits of using the Provider Directory if you’re a person with a disability?

Our hope is that you will be able to search for, and find, a support coordinator and/or an NDIS allied health professional who has the right skills and experience to suit you!

How can people with a disability use this new Directory?

People can search for providers on the Directory here. You can use the filters or you can just do a wide search for a particular provider type. It’s important to know that our focus for the Directory over the coming months is to build listings – it will continue to grow and evolve as more support coordinators and NDIS allied health professionals come on board. So, if you can’t find providers that suit you right now, please continue to have a look over the coming weeks and months.
