Reasonable and Necessary podcast

The Summer Foundation’s very own Dr George Taleporos is back with a third series of his popular podcasts – aimed at helping you make sense of the NDIS.

Back by popular demand, Reasonable and Necessary with Dr George: Making Sense of the NDIS is available to listen to on iTunes or SoundCloud. There are five half-hour episodes in this third series, which cover topics such as how the NDIS can work better and how it can support people with complex needs. We also hear some fantastic insights about Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) from industry insiders, as well as a unique Q&A with the NDIA.

The podcasts are about simplifying the NDIS and helping participants, their families and anyone else involved in supporting NDIS participants to be able to work their way through a new and complicated process.

Can these podcasts please also cover:
    1. How to appeal an unreasonable rejection of an NDIS application eg. by a young stroke survivor with obvious visible and invisible disability, and
    2. Consideration for currently higher functioning individuals with invisible disability eg. young stroke survivors, to be able to apply for the NDIS in the future if/as they deteriorate and experiencing worsening disability, invisible or otherwise.
    Thankyou.

As an Allied Health professional in an area that the NDIS is just beginning to roll out, I just want to say a big thank you for these podcasts! I feel increasingly confident that I’m gaining an improved knowledge base of what is ‘reasonable & necessary’ in assisting my clients to begin to dream of a more ‘reasonable’ life beyond the previous limitations of the Disability Support Services offered.

Excellent podcast George and Les! Considered and useful questions. Les – your son and the others you advocate for are lucky to have you. Important messages about language used; putting the person’s life, rather than cost at the forefront; and thinking about what could be – be aspirational!
