Understanding the need for change is fundamental to achieving change. The Summer Foundation is developing resources for NDIS professionals working with participants, which aim to make your job easier, to educate and inform.

Five years into the rollout of the NDIS, many people and their families are reporting that navigating and getting the most out of the NDIS is not as easy as anticipated. The NDIS has all the necessary elements to be successful, but at present there is a risk of continuing the status quo: if the only supports and services available to purchase are the same ones that people and families have criticised for being inadequate before, then no amount of resourcing will make a meaningful difference.

Support Coordination

Support Coordination will play a critical role in ensuring that NDIS participants are able to use their plan to live a good life. This is especially the case for participants who are vulnerable and socially isolated – such as younger people in nursing homes – where support coordination will be a key determinant of whether younger people have the support they need to leave aged care.

Professional development

The Summer Foundation also hosts four ‘Breakfast Club’ professional development lectures each year that focus on latest insights, research and findings around brain injury rehabilitation. These lectures, originally established by the Victorian Brain Injury Recovery Association (VBIRA), provide information about up-to-date research and clinical practice.
