Working with younger people living in RAC (Shepparton)

  • February 20th, 2020 9:00 am
  • 23 Alexandra St, Mooroopna VIC

The Government has set a new target that will see no one under the age of 65 being admitted into Residential Aged Care (RAC) by 2022. What does this mean for you and the young people you support who are living in aged care?

Who is this for?

  • RAC providers, including Nursing Unit Managers & lifestyle coordinators
  • NDIS support coordinators & NDIS allied health professionals

Why should you attend?

Building your skills to work with young people living in RAC will assist you to:

  • Support a person with complex disability to negotiate the aged care system and NDIS
  • Build the capacity of younger RAC residents to redevelop their independent living skills
  • Encourage younger RAC residents to reconnect with their community
  • Assist younger people to explore their housing and support options
  • Uphold the rights of younger people in RAC to return to live in the community with appropriate supports in place

Workshop participants will understand:

  • The interface between the NDIS and aged care systems
  • Recent NDIS policy changes to stop people under 65 entering RAC, and to support younger people in RAC to exit
  • How to build participant capacity over time to re-engage with their community and improve their quality of life

Facilitated by Penny Paul, the Summer Foundation’s Senior Policy and Research Officer, SDA eligibility expert and author of the Summer Foundation’s NDIS housing resources.
