Working with people with complex needs in complex systems

This UpSkill workshop, brought to you by the Summer Foundation, will assist you to deliver high quality services for NDIS participants. You will learn how to provide support to help people to navigate the complex interface between National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and mainstream services.

This is an interactive workshop and there will be practical exercises, group discussion and opportunity for questions and answers.

Why you should attend:

The people you support often may have complex support needs or may find themselves caught in complex systems. As support coordinators and allied health professionals, it is important to cut through to find solutions that work well for the person you’re supporting.

We will also talk about person centred approaches to support people to live well in the community.

Topics include:

  • Understanding a human rights framework and best practice in support coordination
  • NDIS and mainstream interfaces
  • Self determination and support for decision making
  • Personalised approach to planning
  • Supporting positive behaviour and minimising restrictive practices
  • Developmental safeguards and community connections
  • Additional support when things are not going well for a person with complex needs

Who is this for:

  • Support coordinators
  • NDIS allied health professionals

Workshop facilitators: This workshop will be facilitated by Linda Hughes – NDIS nerd, SDA eligibility expert, support coordinator and the Summer Foundation’s UpSkill Lead.
