In August I attended the launch of Brain Injury Awareness Week, where the theme was “Talking young stroke”. Stroke is one cause of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI), the most prevalent disability for young people in nursing homes. Many of the young people who spoke at the event explained how help came in a rush immediately after their stroke and then faded away. There is little recognition within existing stroke services that young people have the rest of their lives to live.
