The Summer Foundation has joined other leading organsiations in the call for a National Disability Insurance Scheme, which provides for the establishment of a fund that will provide finanancial support to all people with a disbaility.

Currently if people are injured in a workplace or vehicle accident they generally receive financial assistance, but if someone acquires a late onset disability or an acquired brain injury, they do not.

"We currently have a situation where what you get as the result of a catastrophic injury resulting in a disability is dependent on what state you were injured in, and the manner of the injury. The current system is absurd"
The Hon. Bill Shorten, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities speaking at the Press Club in June, has said that he would like to build support for a National Disability Insurance Scheme.
