Cover of Brain Impairment

Two recent Australian studies on young people living in nursing homes co-authored by our CEO DI Winkler have been published in the quality peer-reviewed Brain Impairment Journal (Dec 2010 ed):

Comparison of People With ABI Living
in Two Accommodation Settings: Shared
Supported Accommodation and
Residential Aged Care

AND

People Under 50 With Acquired Brain
Injury Living in Residential Aged Care

These studies show that the type of accommodation and support for young people with disability has a significant impact on their engagement in community based activities. It clearly demonstrates that the "neither the aged care system nor the disability services system are equipped to meet the needs of this target group."
